Very original car with a significant amount of ongoing restorative work having taken place over the last 10 years 

Selling on behalf of current owner who has owned the vehicle since 2012

The 280 SL was introduced in December 1967 and continued in production through 23 February 1971, this is the California Coupe edition with the removable hardtop and fold down rear bench seat, it does not have the folding fabric hood but instead comes with the very rare tonneau cover.   

This particular car was supplied new by Thompson Doxely of Southport in August 1968. Thompson Doxley operated the pit garage for the Mercedes factory team at the British Grand Prix when it took place at Aintree in 1955, the year Mercedes took 4 out the first 5 positions with Sterling Moss winning and Fangio second. 

Unfortunately the early history of the car has been lost over time with all the paperwork with the car reflective of work that the current owner has undertaken over the last nine years of ownership.  That said looking at the MOT records going back to 2006 it is evident that some significant restorative work took place in 2010 although sadly there is no paperwork to back this up. The work was done to an excellent standard which is reflected in the condition of the vehicle. 

In the current owners tenure since 2012 the car has benefitted from being stored in a professional dehumidified facility with any remedial work carried out by the specialist workshop at that facility.  The quality of the work is some of the best available in the UK with the facility working on some of the finest and rarest cars in the world.

The Mercedes drives beautifully and is in excellent condition both inside and out, please contact me regarding all the recent work carried out and for videos/further photographs and a fuller appraisal of the vehicle.  The Pagoda comes with the original hardtop as well  a tonneau cover which is very useful given the nature of the California edition. 

As you can see from the current MOT which runs until 27 May 2022 there is some corrosion on the front floor pan but there are no other advisories present.
